“Renting skiwear provided the ultimate flexibility and saving when kitting out the kids for our ski holiday. Our boys are growing so fast every year and if you’re avid skier as we are, they will have grown out of the kit from one season to the next! Renting takes all the stress, cost and pain away!”

Mum of two Kirsty Edwards came to EcoSki looking for the best place to rent ski kit while facing the usual problem when preparing for the annual family ski trip: her teenage boys had grown out of last year’s ski kit.

Most years, either Jamie, now 16, or Ewan, now 15, have grown out of their ski kit from the previous season, and December 2023 was no different. In addition, Kirsty had last year sold her own ski kit, wanting a change after skiing in the same jacket and pants for several years.

Step in EcoSki…after following the launch of our skiwear rental platform and the journey of our growth on social media over the past few years, Kirsty chose to rent women’s skiwear for herself in December as well as an outfit for Jamie, her eldest who had outgrown all his clothing. Ewan was able to wear the ski kit that Jamie had last season.

Impressed by the simplicity and money-saving aspect of renting skiwear, the mum-of-two, who is Global Head of PR & Communications for Scott Dunn, says she is now a convert.

“We both rented quality ski jackets and ski pants for less than a quarter of the price they would have cost to buy,” says Kirsty. “We spent £200 in all, for two jackets, two pants and a pair of gloves for Jamie, which would have set us back more than £1,500 to buy.”

Although Kirsty often manages a few days away each season with her work, the family were skiing in the Italian Dolomites for the week running up to Christmas.

“I’d recently sold my kit on Vinted, as I’d been wearing it for years so it was time for a change,” says Kirsty. “But with both Ewan and Jamie growing rapidly, I knew there was a strong change their ski kit wouldn’t fit this year, I was also secretly delighted as it gave me the golden opportunity to test out EcoSki’s rental service.”

Kirsty chose a men’s skiwear rental bundle for Jamie — which consisted of a Norrona jacket, Halti Laksu trousers and Ortovox gloves — and a Gore-tex insulated Norrona jacket and matching blue ski pants from Picture for herself.

“I supplied the sizes to Rachael and the outfits we received were brand new, with tags on, and fitted perfectly,” says Kirsty. “I was worried about being cold, as we usually ski at Easter, so EcoSki had suggested an insulated jacket and I wasn’t cold at all. We made incredible savings by renting — both our jackets would have cost £500 but were only £58.50 each to rent.”

Clean, sterilised rental kit from EcoSki is delivered via DPD in a specified one-hour slot. The skiwear in a bag, which skiers keep and use to return the kit after their holiday, using the prepaid shipping label included. No washing is required, just put it all into the bag and drop at a DPD drop-off location.

“With all the work that’s involved before and after a family holiday it was a complete joy not having to wash the kit and worry about what tech product I needed to maintain waterproofing etc — which is another cost,” says Kirsty. “There is no hassle over storage, either, and I love the fact I now have the freedom to try something different each time I ski . This is great because sometimes you make a huge investment in a ski outfit only to find that you might you go off the colour and / or the trousers may get a little tighter over the years!

“Also, I would never be able to afford buy some of the more expensive jackets from brands like Norrona so it was perfect being able to try them out for a fraction of the cost.”

“But by far and away, for me, renting skiwear provided the ultimate flexibility and saving while kitting out the kids. Our boys are growing so fast every year and if you’re avid skier as we are, they will have grown out of the kit from one season to the next! So renting takes all the stress, cost and pain away!”

Kirsty says her takeaway from the experience is to “Think of ski clothing rental in the same way as ski rental! You get to try out a different outfit/model/ski each year – the latest and best without having to shell out for it new!”
