EcoSki helps skiers save hundreds by renting ski kit this winter
For immediate release, January 2024
The UK’s leading rental ski clothing platform, EcoSki, is helping make ski holidays more affordable by offering savings of hundreds of pounds when skiers rent — instead of buy — their kit this winter.
Costs to rent a high-quality ski jacket and pants for a week’s holiday start from just £45.50, which includes postage and all cleaning costs. EcoSki offers everything a skier or snowboarder of any age needs for the slopes, from ski jackets to socks to goggles, baselayers and gloves and there is no need to wash any item before sending it back in the pre-paid envelope supplied. So skiers save on washing, wardrobe space and their carbon footprint in one wallet-friendly transaction.
The prices (full details below) are even lower than buying cheap, often lesser-quality kit from leading discount retailers — and EcoSki’s kit performs. Unlike some of these cut-price competitors (which the team behind EcoSki has worn and tested over many years), all the skiwear available from EcoSki performs in demanding environments and is guaranteed to keep the entire family warm and dry.
The award-winning brands available to rent include Norrona, Rab, Protest, Planks and Halti, with every item chosen by EcoSki for its high performance, durability and style, as well as its overall environmental and social footprint. Sustainability highlights of the rental kit include being free of PFCs, carbon neutral, Fair Wear certified, free of toxic dyes, bio-sourced and/or 100% recycled.
Kirsty Edwards is a mum of two teenage boys, Jamie, 16, and Ewan, 15 and used EcoSki in December 2023, spending £200 to rent two outfits instead of buying them for £1500+.
“We went skiing in the Dolomites before Christmas. My teenage sons are growing rapidly, and while Ewan could fit into his brother’s hand-me-downs, my eldest, Jamie, needed kit as did I — I’d recently sold my skiwear on Vinted,” says Kirsty. “I supplied Jamie’s size to EcoSki and we ended up with a brand new Norrona jacket, Halti Lasku trousers and Ortovox gloves, while I rented a Norrona jacket and Picture trousers. Rachael at EcoSki advised us on everything and the size and fit was perfect. In all, we paid £200 to rent both outfits (including gloves) whereas it would have cost over £1500!”
Kirsty adds: “We are regular skiers and I love the fact that the service is effortless, there’s no washing or storage, not having to maintain waterproofing — another cost — and the freedom to try something different each time you ski. Renting is the ultimate flexibility — taking all the stress, cost and pain away!”
After every EcoSki rental, item are cleaned and, if required, reproofed using environmentally friendly Nikwax products and/or repaired. Before being dispatched to the next customer, kit is sterilised via an innovative, eco-friendly Ozone chamber so it arrives in pristine, mountain-ready condition.
Through its rental, repair and care service, EcoSki aims to keep all hard-wearing ski kit in circulation and on the slopes for longer. Nothing is sent to landfill — every item is recycled when it reaches end-of-life stage, using EcoSki’s innovative network for repurposing textiles.
EcoSki founder and mum-of-three Rachael Westbrook set up the platform in 2020 with the aim of making high-quality, technical and — most importantly — sustainable skiwear available for all.
She says: “For many of us, skiwear only comes out of our wardrobe once or twice a year. Quality, well-made and sustainable kit comes with a price tag to match. As a result people are often driven towards the cheaper, poorer-quality alternatives and this is what I want to help change – making high-performance, better-quality and kinder kit more accessible and affordable for all. It will also free up a lot of storage space for families! I hope the EcoSki Rental service will make skiers feel like they are simply borrowing kit from a friend.”
